Montreal Biodôme – Space for Life

Montreal, Quebec, Canada, 2020

Opened in 1992, the Montreal Biodôme is a cross between a zoo, an aquarium and a botanical garden. It is home to thousands of species of flora and fauna from various locations and climates throughout North and South America. The Biodôme is one of Quebec’s most popular tourist attractions, having amazed and delighted over 800,000 people to date.

In an effort to create a more contemporary and immersive experience for guests, the Biodôme temporarily shut down for two years while it underwent major renovations to some of its larger public spaces.  One of the new features unveiled when it reopened in August 2020 was the Bio-machine exhibition, which provided a behind-the-scenes look at how the entire centre operates.  Located on the mezzanine of the Biodôme, the exhibition gives guests the opportunity to learn more about some of the on-site jobs done by staff members, through a series of 10 interactive stations.  A multimedia interface showcases the various life support systems for each ecosystem within the facility.

Description

XYZ’s involvement in the Bio-machine project focused on multimedia integration (audio, video, architectural lighting).

The system comprised 24speakers on 24separate tracks to spatialize the sound and make the entire acoustic experience more immersive Touchscreens and peripherals were also installed in certain stations to help visitors carry out specific “missions.”  Every piece of equipment was carefully selected to fit perfectly within the interior of the exhibition module.  Track-mounted projectors were strategically positioned to draw attention to key visuals and information panels.
