On their journey to update the audiovisual infrastructure at Terminus Longueuil, the Réseau de transport de Longueuil (RTL) called on Construction NCP to replace and program the information screens that guide passengers onsite. The contractor decided to team up with XYZ Technologies to bring this project to life. With our expertise in Intelligent Transportation Systems, we were able to make significant contributions to the mandate, which featured a major upgrade to this bustling transportation hub.
Delivering results that improved the terminus user experience meant rethinking the display panel solutions, ensuring they were technologically advanced and ready to meet the high expectations of the project.
Modernizing the systems allows for information to be broadcast in real time and controlled remotely, all while rigorously respecting the technical specifications of the client. The new equipment components guarantee continuous screen functioning and a connection to a dedicated Wi-Fi network. Each screen is equipped with an anti-reflection coating and elevated luminance intensity, ensuring optimal legibility at all times.
The project was executed in multiple steps, all taking daily traffic through the terminus into account. The first step was to remove the original variable message signs (VMS) and completely dismantle the existing wiring. Next, new supports and screens were installed in their place, and then our team was able to move ahead with programming and implementing the new system.
To deliver this mandate on time and to the exact needs of the RTL, the XYZ team was able to overcome significant technical and logistical challenges. Additionally, some of the work could not be undertaken with passengers nearby, so needed to take place at night or during moments of low foot traffic.
These efforts resulted in a new display system that uses cutting-edge technology to greatly improve the user experience of thousands of passengers who visit Terminus Longueuil every day. The new VMS can continuously broadcast relevant travel information, improving the quality of the service offered by this important public infrastructure.
